Ballintrae Alpaca Stud
About Ballintrae Alpacas

“Ballintrae” is an historical home set in a heavenly aspect overlooking the Bunyip River. An ideal location to breed these gentle, spiritual camelids. We are endeavouring to develop genetically the traits that re-emerge with careful breeding practices.

These traits are linked strongly to the development of fine, dense, well-crimped fleeces with lustre. The fleeces are the commercial end product that grows on a well conformed body.

Understandably, we are using only alpacas that demonstrate with their progeny the genetic prowess of their famous relatives.

We have been using Purrumbete genes with some line breeding using the sire Ladysmith Merlin. He has this ability of producing crias like peas in a pod. That is crias that grow well bodily, and have fleeces that always tend to be better than their mothers.

An exciting birth we are awaiting on is the arrival of an embryo transplant due in May. The cria we are hoping for is a male, so we can outcross our hembras to Hemingway and Caligula bloodlines. The sire is Halcyon Vincent Van Gogh and the dam is Halcyon Pannikin. These alpacas have been used in the breeding programme of Halcyon Alpacas, that uses the AGE results and Soft Rolling Skin technology to further bring out those wonderful genetic traits.
